About Patty
Patty is an author, speaker, educator, and coach on the topic of neurodiversity. Leveraging both personal and professional experience, she understands the impact of being neurodivergent in a world built for neurotypicals. She comes from the neurodiversity perspective and also acknowledges the challenges differences can pose to daily living.
Patty is the creator of the SBN® parenting framework, through which parents learn the five steps to helping neurodivergent teens and adults get unstuck and realize their greatest potential. She also runs a group coaching program called Parenting for Independence, which helps parents of neurodivergent emerging adults learn how to implement the SBN® parenting framework and join others in community for this unexpected stage in their parenting journeys.
Patty is the author of the book, "Parenting for Independence: Overcoming Failure to Launch in Emerging Autistic Adults."

About Patty’s Book
When your autistic emerging adult is stuck—isolating in their room, stalled in school, or generally unable to move forward—it can feel overwhelming and hopeless.
In Parenting for Independence: Overcoming Failure to Launch in Autistic Emerging Adults, Patty Laushman shares the exact approach she developed while helping her own autistic son thrive, and has since taught to hundreds of families through her coaching.
Using the SBN® parenting framework she created—Support, Boundaries, and Nudges—you’ll learn how to:
-
Build connection and trust, even if communication feels strained right now
-
Activate your child’s intrinsic motivation without nagging or power struggles
-
Support their growth while protecting your own mental health
This is not about “fixing” your child. It’s about walking beside them as they discover their strengths and move toward a meaningful adult life.
